iPhone App Design
Solvd use a mantra of “Balanced design, appearance and usability” to ensure your iPhone App satisfies your requirements and design goals.
Initial discussions
Our initial discussions will cover the goals of the app development, design boundaries such as corporate branding and what iOS devices will be supported (iPhone 3x, iPhone 4, and iPod Touch) and what application and design variations will be made for each device. Functionality and business rules are discussed as well as monetization strategies such as iAds and App marketing strategies and making the most of the App Store features.
We then formalise these ideas into the project brief and submit this to the customer so all parties know what the project goals and endpoints are.
Use Cases & Application Flow
Sold develop use cases for the app to identify how the system will be used and the type of people using it. These use cases drive the design on app usability, the flow of control in the system and how the app screens flow together. During this phase we a stencil based system to allow us to rapidly re-draw and re-visualise the on-screen elements needed and how the app will flow. This iterative process is based on our knowledge of standard iPhone user interface elements and interactions and allows a product design and interaction method that is fit for purpose and will be easy to use and adhere to the iPhone user interface guidelines.
Design
We design a basic wire frame layout, then once you are happy with the flow and basic on screen elements we turn it into a detailed set of UI layouts that give you early visibility of how the app will look and work. These detailed mock-ups are then used to drive the development of the actual app UI code and design elements.
Build
The detailed mock-ups are used to guide the designers and developers who transform these app deigns into UI elements such as buttons and icons and link these to the actual iOS code that will perform the interaction as supply data to the screen and bring the app to life.
Approval
Video capture of the app in action with a user navigating through the various use cases is produced and given to the customer for their approval prior to the lengthy App Store submission process.
Acceptance testing via Ad-hoc builds can be produced for identified customer hardware prior to App sign off and submission to allow you to test the app on your own hardware and various different hardware and software builds.
iPhone App Submission
Once the customer is happy with the final product the application submission pack is created with App Store icons, screenshots, age ratings, app categories and descriptive text and submitted to the App Store for approval. This process takes 1-2 weeks normally and Solvd will manage this process end-to-end.
